Professional biography
Dr. Ruprecht Brandis has been Managing Director of the Berlin-based climate think tank Clean Energy Forum (CEF) since March 2024.
From 2004 to 2024, he worked in external affairs at bp. He served as Senior Adviser Europe from 2021 to 2024, Director External Affairs Germany and Head of the Berlin Office from 2010 to 2021, and Senior Political Adviser and Deputy Head of the Berlin Office from 2004 to 2009.
Before joining bp, he practised law in Potsdam from 2001 to 2003. Between 1990 and 2000, he held positions in the German federal administration: in the Foreign Economic Affairs Department of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs from 1990 to 1992 and again from 1993 to 1996; in the Economic Affairs Department of the German Embassy in Washington, D.C., from 1992 to 1993; and as Head of the Industry and Energy Division in the Federal Chancellery from 1996 to 2000. He previously practised law in Hamburg in 1989 and 1990.
Following vocational training in banking in Hamburg from 1978 to 1980, he pursued legal studies, legal traineeship and doctoral research in Heidelberg, Bonn and West Berlin between 1980 and 1990. He completed a part-time MBA programme at NIMBAS/University of Bradford from 1997 to 1999 and obtained Executive Certificates in Economic Development and Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School in 2019 and 2021.
He is a member of the board of the Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft and of the administrative board of the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany.
