Biography

Professional biography

Jan Hanrath is CEO and co-founder of CARPO – Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient. He studied political science, European law and psychology, with a focus on intercultural communication, at the University of Duisburg-Essen and is currently writing his doctoral thesis on German public diplomacy in the Middle East.

From 2008 to 2014, he was a researcher at the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF) at the University of Duisburg-Essen and also served as an Associate Fellow at INEF. At CARPO, he has worked as a researcher and coordinator on projects concerning Iran-Saudi dialogue, economic development in Yemen, migration and conflict, political transformation in the Middle East, and academic exchange. His publications address intercultural dialogue, Middle Eastern politics, social media and political mobilisation, and migration and conflict.
